Artist Profile: James Yang
Since graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1983, James Yang has won over 200 awards for excellence in illustration. Recent awards include those bestowed upon him by 3X3 The Magazine of Contemporary Illustration whose 2010 ProShow named James Best in Show for Animation and a Merit Award winner for both the Books and Editorial Categories. His work can be seen in The Boston Globe, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Time, Newsweek and The Washington Post. His clients include Apple, Fidelity Investments, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Microsoft, MIT, Nabisco and Xerox. His work has appeared in some of the most prestigious trade publications in the United States including Communication Arts Design Annual, Communications Arts Illustration Annual, Print Magazine, Graphis, and the Society of Publication Designers Annual. One of his many posters was featured at the Hiroshima Museum of Art. James has also designed a sculpture titled "Clockman" which is part of a permanent exhibit at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. He has also lectured at the Maryland Art Institute, Corcoran School of Design, and The School of Visual Arts and Design. In 2004, his first authored/ illustrated children's book, "Joey and Jet" was released to critical acclaim. His second book, "Joey and Jet in Space" was released in June 2006. -
